What is Restylr?
Restylr was allows you to edit website templates online to enable you to quickly an easily sketch up new designs without the tedious job of using Photoshop and Dreamweaver (or equivilant software) to create mockups / final designs. Restylr deals with image colouring, transparencies etc - all the tedious jobs normally involved with website development. The point and click interface allows you to change image colours (or remove them), develop your own banner, change all aspects of fonts and background colours.
How does it work?Choose a template to edit here, then edit it, then save your new design to .zip file. You can then take this .zip and do whatever you like with it - take it a to a website developer to integrate to your favourite CMS platform (e.g. Wordpress, OsCommerce, ZenCart etc), or create a simple static HTML website with it, and upload it somewhere online when you're done.
Who is it useful for?Both website designers and anyone wanting to develop a new design (but lacks the skills). Web designers will find it useful to sketch up mockups, as will "normal" people who can create their design here and then send it (in .zip format) to a developer as a design to integrate to their favourite CMS platform.
Why was Restlyr developed?
We are website developers ourselves (Restylr was developed by puresilva.com) and we know the look and feel of a site is a very subjective issue. A lot of people start by looking at free CSS website templates available to download but the trouble is they're a pain to edit - normally to do that you need :-
- CSS Skills
- Photoshop Skills
- Software like Dreamweaver to make your CSS / HTML edits
Moreover, it's a time consuming task to take a CSS template, then alter the CSS file and images to suit the customer (if you're a web developer). You just don't want to hear "can you do it all in a slightly lighter blue" knowing it's going to take another 30 minutes of your time to do that. This is all because the end customer is relying soley on the developer to come up with mockups. With Restylr, it's actually possible for novices to create professional looking web templates - meaning they don't need a website developer in the first place, OR instead of having to tell the developer the colour scheme they want, they can create it here, then send it off to their website developer in .zip format so it's EXACTLY what the customer wants (saving customer and developer time) - leaving the developer to get on with integration to CMS / finalising.
But right now, there's not that many templates available on Restylr.com - what if I don't like them?
Good point. The good news is it takes us about 30 minutes of our time to add brand new templates to edit so we'll be adding hundreds of distinct designs over time. But anyway, it's still possible to take one of our existing templates and turn it inside out (see this example) - to the point it's hardly recognisable when compared to its original design.
